Facilitated Performance Review
Past behavior is the best predictor of future performance. To capture this important information, Ergometrics has developed an optional component for the promotional process. This consists of detailed comparisons of candidate performance in the department to date. We provide standardized rating tools to compare candidates on 15 important dimensions of supervision and management. Our consultants facilitate the entire process, assuring accuracy, fairness, and professionalism. This unique performance review element strongly enhances the predictive accuracy and real world relevance of your promotional process.
Select Group Evaluation
In this process, each candidate is compared with all other candidates in terms of their impact on the department thus far and their ability to function as a role model to others. Officers who are familiar with the performance of each candidate complete the evaluations separately and confidentially. Areas evaluated for first level supervisors include communication style, maturity in stressful situations, interrogative/investigative communication, initiative in handling and resolving situations, officer safety orientation, sensitivity to diverse groups, situational assessment and analysis, relations with supervisors and management, relations with co-workers, work habits, professional behavior and bearing, paperwork, persistence in learning and keeping up-to-date, physical skills, driving skills and over all job performance.
FireTEAM Interview
FireTEAM Interview is an entry level interview designed to provide information helpful in understanding how candidates may fit in with the station environment. This is an area that can be a major problem for some candidates and hard for supervisors to remedy if the candidate is hired. The FireTEAM Interview is centered around dimensions found in FireTEAM: Entry Level Test. The dimensional results a department receives from FireTEAM can be used as a guide in selecting the most appropriate and informative questions for each candidate. The FireTEAM Interview provides interviewers with detailed positive and negative behavioral indicators for each dimension, as well as specific questions focused on each dimension.

"We are a small department and recently went through our first level entry hiring process. We were concerned about the correct type of testing to use for teamwork and public relation skills, areas that we feel are important. . ERGOMETRICS was recommended to me by an officer of a neighboring department. I contacted them and the rest was easy. The content of the test matched our criteria, the cost fit our budget, the customer service was great and the test was very easy to administer. We were completely satisfied with ERGOMETRICS and will be using them for our next hiring process."

"I just wanted to commend you and your company on the excellent results we have received from your FireTEAM testing. We have found that the testing results are identical to our interviewers results and has given us a valuable tool to validate our hiring procedures. I would also like to thank you for the prompt attention that you and your staff provides us. We look forward to utilizing other tests as they become available."

"Things are going well here. We have hired the first three people from the new hiring list. They are very good individuals and will make excellent additions to our team. We also have extended conditional offers to three others, who I am just as confident with.
The testing process produced the results we were hoping for. I appreciate how easy Ergometrics has been to work with. You have a great product and we are looking forward to our continued use of your tests!"

"Helena Fire Department has been using FireTEAM Testing for several years now. Prior to that we had used a variety of instruments and processes to try to determine before we made a job offer, how well an individual would fit in our organization. We were not really satisfied with any of them. Then we happened upon FireTEAM Testing.
We have found the ratings in the various performance dimensions to be very helpful. With each candidate, we focus on those areas where the FireTEAM evaluation indicates there is possibly a reason for concern. We give the candidate an opportunity to respond to the dimension ratings and we ask follow-up questions. Using those ratings we are able to tailor our interview questions to elicit a more in-depth response from our new-hire candidates. We have found the ratings in the performance dimensions to be a very good indicator of individual tendencies. The FireTEAM test has allowed us to select some very highly ranked candidates who turned out to be valuable, productive employees. FireTEAM Testing results have proved to be a very good indicator for us when trying to determine organizational "fit"!"
Steve Larson, Fire Chief
JR Feucht, Assistant Chief of Operations

"The Caldwell Fire Department has used many of the "canned" entry level tests available on the market with little success. In the spring of 2006, Caldwell Fire was introduced to Ergometrics. Now we receive a profile of the candidate strengths and weakness as part of the entry level test. We have use the FireTEAM entry level test and have found it to be very beneficial. It was very interesting to see people we knew take the test and see how accurately the test would identify a candidate's strengths and weaknesses. Now as we assign the new candidate to their first company officer, we are able to match the candidate's profile with the office that will allow for the candidate to succeed. We are looking forward to using the Captain's and Battalion Chief's exams this spring in our promotional process."

Diagnosed with a brain tumor, firefighter Mark Noble, Olympia, Washington, studied all the information he could find about firefighters and cancer. Fire Department Chief of Operations Pat Dale arranged for Mark to sit for this interview with Ergometrics.
Inspired by Mark Noble to do our part to spread the word, we at Ergometrics have created this video of his interview. The video contains important information about firefighters and cancer including specific suggestions for steps that firefighters can take to reduce their risks on-the-job.
